Entry forms completed and fees to be paid by 1 September 2023
Schedules will be sent out 2 weeks prior to dance festival date.
dance divisions
Teachers are encouraged to enter their dancers in the most fitting division.
1. Festival division:
The festival division is for new dancers / novices and open to “first time on stage” dancers to help them get over the fear of performing on stage.
2. Elite Division:
The Elite division is for the more experienced dancers (intermediate and advanced level). A dance studio or entrant may either do a studio solo set dance or an own choice solo.

MINI 8 YEARS & YOUNGER
JUNIOR 9 - 12 YEARS

SENIOR 16 YEARS & OLDER
ADULT OPEN 35 YEARS & OLDER
Age is as at 1 January 2023
The average age of all the dancers as at 1 January 2023 will determine the appropriate age division for each duo, trio, quartet, small group, big group and formation. For example: if the decimal is 5 and over it is then moved to the next number (e.g. 15,6 will be 16 and move into senior category), if it is lower than 5 is stays at the age before decimal (e.g. 15,4 will be 15 and will be in the teens category).
dance disciplines
Modern
Showdance: encompasses dance choreography that is of musical theatre and character nature incorporating a story accompanied by costume depictive of the story
Contemporary: encompasses expressive dance choreography that combines dance genres focussing on fluidity of movement and gravity as a basis
Jazz: encompasses dancechoreography that is evident of bent knees, jazz hands and body isolations with explosive leaps and turns
Lyrical: encompasses dance choreography inspired by the lyrics and combining ballet, modern and jazz dance techiniques.
Ballet: encompasses dance choreography specifically related to classical ballet technique
Hip Hop: encompasses dance choreography that incorporates a mix of hip hop/street styles which include some styles such as locking, popping, wacking, voguing, krumping
Tap: encompasses dance choreography specifically related to tap techniques. No pre-recorded sounds are allowed
Acrobatics: encompasses dance choreography incoporating specific acrobatic movements
sections & time limits
Listed below is the minimum and maximum time limits for each section. Any music that exceeds that limit by 10 seconds will be stopped whilst dancer is on stage.

Correctly Completed Registration forms and Entry Forms together with Proof of Payment of registration and competition entry fees to be received by 1 September 2023.
All registration and competition entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE.
spectator admission fees
Adults: R40 per session
Children 10yrs & under: R30 per session
Pensioners: R30 per session
Payable in cash at the door.
*Spectator Entry Fee for the All Star Performance will be R80.
Depending on the number of entrants qualifying there may be a Solo All Star Performance as well as a D/T/Q/SG/BG/F All Star Performance
competition session
Weekend Days - program will be split into morning, afternoon and evening sessions
Week Days - program will be split into afternoon and evening sessions,
Depending on the number of entrants the competition may run over 2-3 days.
All efforts will be made to compile the program to include varied sections within a session.
scoring, results & awards
Each routine will be given a percentage up to 100%
Bronze: 69% and below
Silver: 70%-79%
Gold: 80%-89%
Gold with distinction: 90%-100%
Each entrant will receive a Medal and Certificate.
all star performance
All Entrants with a score of 80% and above and any routine that is the adjudicators choice irrespective of result achieved will be called to perform in the All Star Performance which takes place on the final day of the festival.
Here, the dancers stand the chance to win a Special Award.
Special Awards comprise of:

Best performing Soloist in Mini/Junior/Teen/Senior/Adult Open in each Division and Dance Discipline.

Best performing Duo in each Division and Dance Discipline.

Best performing Trio in each Division and Dance Discipline.

Best performing Quartet in each Division and Dance Discipline.

Best performing Small Group in each Division and Dance Discipline.

Best choreography in duo, quartet, small group, big group and formation in each Division and Dance Discipline.
All special award winners receive a Certificate and Trophy.
Spectator Entry Fee for the All Star Performance will be R80. Payable in cash at the door.

adjudicators
Routines will be adjudicated by a minimum of three competent judges. After each section the Adjudicator/s will provide positive, constructive and encouraging verbal feedback to all entrants and provide results. All Adjudicator decisions are final.
Teachers, dancers and parents may not discuss results with adjudicators throughout the run of the competition.
music
Music is to be within the time limits for the correct categories. Music is to be sent via WeTransfer two weeks prior to the competition including dancers name, division/age category/dance discipline/section. For example: Cynthia Matthews Festival/ Mini/ Hip Hop/Solo.
If you have more than one dance with the same song in a section, all entrants using the song must be listed in the email of your WeTransfer.
scheduled performance time
It is important that All dancers arrive at least 1 hour prior to their scheduled performance times. The schedule may run early or late, every effort will be made to not run more than 30 minutes off schedule. Entrants in the very first session of the day are required to arrive half an hour before their scheduled performance times.
Entrants will be required to be ready waiting backstage 2 sections in advance of their scheduled performance.
backstage & dressing rooms
Only teachers, assistants and prop movers are allowed backstage along with the entrants during the competition. All stage entrances and exits are to remain clear to allow for routines to enter and exit.
It is requested that entrants arrive ready dressed and groomed as change room space may be limited.
All entrants and teachers are to be respectful and courteous to each other.
No noise will be tolerated, and all backstage and dressing rooms are to be kept clean.
No smoking, use of flammable substances and alcohol is allowed in the venue.
The TTTS organizers reserve the right to disqualify and ask any person, entrant, teacher, parent to leave the premises immediately should any non-compliance, harmful and inappropriate behavior be displayed.
stage, props, lights & curtains
Any prop to be placed on and removed from the stage must be done within the shortest time (no more than 15 seconds). Props are the teacher’s responsibility. No other materials such as sand, liquid, powder may be used on stage
Adequate stage lighting will be operated by the TTTS organizers and no additional individual effects will be allowed. This includes fire or smoke effects.
Stage curtains will always remain open and may only closed at the end of each session.
No material like glitter, powder, sand or water may be used on stage.
competition session
No swear words, profanities etc contained in lyrics and indecent dance movements deemed unsuitable for a family audience, will be tolerated. The entrant may be disqualified. This will be determined by the Adjudicators in consultation with TTTS organizers
photography & videography
No flash photography or videography allowed.
inherit risks
Preparation and performing dance carry certain inherent risks which may amongst others include muscle strains, broken bones etc. By entering entrants into this competition confirms the acceptance of such risks by dancers.
By entering entrants into this competition, it is agreed and understood that the Take To The Stage organizers and staff shall not be held liable for any injuries sustained whilst entrants and other persons are in attendance or participating in the event. Furthermore, Take To The Stage is not responsible for any personal property loss or theft to either entrants or other persons attending or participating in the event.
media
By entering entrants into this competition, permission and consent is given to the Take To The Stage organizers to use entrants and attendees images, photographs or video footage for appearance on videos, television or any other electronic media for advertising, news coverage or any other commercial use of the event.
